Abstract:
The only place to get the key for the closed Zanotti hut (upper Stura Valley) is in Pontebernardo. Our recommendations for breaks on the way from Bagni di Vinadio to Pontebernardo are the Migliorero hut and the Casa per Ferie Regina delle Alpi in Prati di Vallone.

Zwischen Pontebernardo und Bagni di Vinadio (Strepeis) im oberen Sturatal wird in der offiziellen Wegführung der Via Alpina als Übernachtungsort das unbewirtschaftete Rifugio Zanotti angegeben - für das man sich den Schlüssel leider nur im Posto Tappa von Pontebernardo, nicht aber (Gegenrichtung) in Bagni di Vinadio besorgen kann .

Dies Problem ist aber leicht zu umgehen, in dem man entweder

1. auf Etappe R 138 bereits im wunderschön gelegenen Rifugio Migliorero übernachtet, oder
2. gleich ein Stück der Etappe R 137 bis Prati di Vallone weitergeht und dort in der Ferienkolonie Regina delle Alpi der ‚Associazione Zio John‘ übernachtet (333/35.22.326, e-mail: cestem@tin.it, 20 Plätze, auch Restaurant und sehenswerter Giardino Alpino).

Von Pontebernardo kommend hat der Betreiber des dortigen Posto Tappa schon im Jahr 2006 auf dem aushängenden Streckenplan eingezeichnet, wie seiner Meinung nach die sehr lange Etappe (8h40) klug abgekürzt werden kann – und das Rifugio Migliorero innerhalb eines Tages erreicht werden kann.

Hallo Rudi,

Meines Wissens gibt es noch immer keinen Wanderführer, der – analog des just erschienenen Bandes zum Gelben Weg – den Roten Weg abdeckt. Auch kenne ich den Planungsstand hierzu nicht. Vielleicht liest ja jemand von der Via-Alpina-Organisation mit und kann dazu etwas berichten?

It’s good to know that the keys for the two huts are available not only in Pontebernardo – but also in Pietraporza. Thanks for that information!

But because both huts have been very (!) closed every time I passed them:

Are you absolutely sure that somebody will come up the long way from Pietraporza to the Zanotti hut to bring me the key if I would call them one day in advance from Bagni di Vinadio??

Additionally:
If I don’t want to carry food and all the stuff for cooking with me – isn’t then the only possibility to get a meal in the evening either the Migliorero hut or the ‚Casa per Ferie Regina delle Alpi‘ in Prati di Vallone?
